The Rural Economic Development Zone or REDZ is aimed at supporting local communities.
The REDZ scheme is aimed at boosting employment, tackling rural isolation and developing tourism & enterprise.
Four Tipperary projects are included in the funding from the Rural Economic Development Zones scheme
€150,000 has been earmarked to develop the Ormond way in Nenagh in order to capitalise on the Failte Ireland branding initiative which it's hoped will attract additional tourists
Efforts to revitalise Tipperary Town centre will be boosted by an allocation of €75,000…some of which will also be used to develop the Annacarty Community Shop and Tearooms to provide a focal point for the village.
€125,000 will be used on a project in Clonmel to foster economic development and entrepreneurship by developing natural resources such as that of the River Suir.
Finally there's more good news for the Tholsel Visitor Centre in Fethard with an allocation of €25,000 under the REDZ scheme.
The allocations have been welcomed by Environment Minister Alan Kelly, Junior Agriculture Minister Tom Hayes and Deputy Noel Coonan.
