€3.15 million has been allocated for the upgrade of the Stannix Home in Thurles.
The building, located on Kickham Street, has fallen into some disrepair and is in need of work.
However, as the building is a protected structure, it may take some time for plans to be formally agreed.
The Department of Housing granted the allocation to the Lions Club, who intend to carry out repairs to the existing building, as well as building new housing structures on the adjoining land.
Thurles based Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill says he looks forward to the plans coming to fruition.
