While there were heated exchanges over possible changes at St. Patrick's Hospital in Cashel at yesterdays meeting of South Tipperary County Council there was cross party agreement when it came to the future of South Tipp General Hospital.

During a debate on HSE plans for St. Patrick's Councillor Tom Wood accused two Fine Gael representatives of being mouthpieces for the HSE.

Councillors Mary Hanna Hourigan and Liam Ahearn, who are members of the Regional Health Forum South, were quick to refute the allegation.

However an earlier motion from Pat English and Billy Shoer on securing the future of services at South Tipp General Hospital got the full backing of the council.

Councillor Shoer says the maternity services are the corner stone of the Clonmel hospital – if they are lost he says other key services and jobs will follow.
