Two former Anglo Irish Bank executives have been sent forward for trial in connection with an alleged fraudulent €8 million loan.
Former Finance Director Willie McAteer – with an address in Greenrath, Tipperary Town – is accused of fraudulently obtaining a loan from Anglo to pay off a personal loan with Bank of Ireland in September 2008.
A similar charge against Pat Whelan from Coast Road in Malahide, County Dublin – the former director of lending at Anglo Irish Bank – alleges he was party to the granting of the same loan.
At Dublin District Court today books of evidence in the case were served on both men; neither indicated how they intend to plead and there was no objection to continuing bail.
The pair were also given the standard warning that if they intended to use alibis in their defence they must notify the prosecution within 14 days – When asked if they understood Mr McAteer quietly replied yes while his co-accused nodded.
Willie McAteer must sign once a month at Tipperary Town Garda Station while Mr Whelan must sign on monthly at the garda station in Malahide.
