Excess surface water on the Quays in Clonmel last night lead the council to block access to the area, however they have since reopened.

The local authority insists its 50 million euro flood defence measures have not been breached and the flood waters are not coming from the River Suir but a build up of excess water in the drains.

The Convent Bridge was also closed to traffic due to floodwaters and that remains blocked off today however both the Presentation primary and secondary schools are unaffected and are open.

The local authority also closed Dry Bridge and collapsed the glass walls to allow the flood waters to flow.

Then in Cashel, the road at Upper Green near the cemetery is flooded with no access from the motorway beyond the Topaz Garage.

In Thurles Davis Street is closed due to flooding and a wall has collapsed onto the road between Knockavilla and Camas Bridge on the R505. According to Gardai this is causing a problem for motorists with caution being advised.
