Funding has been announced for work to counteract flooding in the artificial lake at Marlfield Village near Clonmel.
The Office of Public Works has approved a grant of €45,000 under the Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme.
Tipperary County Council’s plans for the project have been underway since 2021 after a number of incidents where the water overtopped the dam over the years.
The design work was done in 2023 with a view to having work start this year.
The job involves temporary works to support the large retaining wall and parapet, removal of all vegetation and trees in the vicinity of the culvert and strengthening the existing stone masonry and concrete retaining walls to the upstream embankments.
66 funding applications by Tipperary County Council have been supported under this scheme since it was introduced in 2009.
