The body is carrying out an investigation into the incident on the Drumcamoge River earlier this week in association with Tipperary and Limerick County Councils.

The fish kill – which covered a 3.5 kilometre stretch of prime nursery between Ballycahill Bridge and Knocklong – has been attributed to agricultural effluent.

Inland Fisheries Ireland senior environment officer Michael Fitzsimons says the pollution has decimated the fish population on the river with nearly 4,400 fish killed
