The revelation was made to Sinn Féin on foot of a Freedom of Information request.
The Department of Finance says two out of eight key documents concerning the bank guarantee are missing.

They include correspondence between the Bank of Ireland Governor Richard Burrows and a tax adviser for the Jupiter group.
Sinn Féin's Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty says he's extremely concerned by the move.
