Fine Gael's John Cross has been elected Cathaoirleach of the Tipperary Cashel District after the only other person nominated withdrew their name.

Councillor Crosse was nominated under a Fine Gael – Fianna Fail pact.

Independent Denis Leahy was also proposed for the position of Cathaoirleach but withdrew after a row over the d'Hont system.

Fianna Fail's Roger Kennedy was elected Leas Cathaoirleach.
