Fears for jobs at Intel’s Irish plant

Intel has a workforce of about four and a half thousand here – centred on its plant in Leixlip County Kildare.

The US chipmaker says it wants to reduce dependence on the slumping personal computer market.

The restructuring will get rid of about 11 per cent of its employees by the middle of next year.

The company says it's too early to say if staff will be cut from its Irish operations.
