This latest fatal crash happened at around half eight this morning on the Fethard to Killenaule road.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene – Gardai say the vehicle struck a tree on the Fethard side of Coolmore.

The 19 year old local man was the only occupant of the car – his body has been taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out.

The R689 will remain closed for a number of hours while a forensic collision examination is carried out – diversions are in place although HGV's are being advised to stick to main routes.

This latest crash is the fourth fatality on the roads of Tipperary and the 21st in the country since the start of the year.
