The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has approved €80,000 for the 1916 Commemoration Committee at the Thomas MacDonagh Heritage Centre in Cloughjordan.

There are significant plans in place to honour the North Tipp native and Signatory of the Irish Proclamation next year. Included in the proposal is a statue of MacDonagh along with a garden of remembrance.

The committee has already been allocated €40,000 from Tipperary County Council.

Fine Gael TD Noel Coonan says the funding from the Arts Minister is a great boost to the plan and that the total funding now of €120,000 means the people of Cloughjordan can move forward with their plans.
