Explosive device found in Roscrea

A viable explosive device has been made safe by the Defence Forces in Roscrea.

The alarm was raised at around 11.30 last night when the device was spotted near a vehicle in the Cois Carrig estate.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived at the scene at 2.45am.

The area was cordoned off and some residents were evacuated for a time while a controlled explosion was carried out.

The army bomb experts declared the area safe at 4.40 this morning.
