Minister Phil Hogan announced this lunchtime that the Cabinet had signed off on water charges.
The average household will pay around €240 per year – depending on usage and conservation – and the final decision on cost from the regulator.

The unit cost is to be fixed until the end of 2016 – and every household will get an allowance of a free 30,000 litres per year.
The proposed standing charge is abolished, while children in families are to get an extra allowance.
Charges will also be capped for people with higher water usage due to certain medical conditions.
Those who refuse to pay will see their water pressure turned down.
