Former Green leader hits out at criticism of turf cutting ban

The former Green Party leader is hitting out at populist politicians who tried to paint his party in a certain light.

Just yesterday Tipperary Deputy Mattie McGrath said people should have been able to use solid fuel stoves and burned turf during the recent storms

Eamon Ryan says there was never a ban on burning turf or installing fireplaces in homes, despite some popular belief.

There is however a ban on the largescale sale of turf.

But Eamon Ryan says he never moved to ban people from burning it to keep themselves warm.
