Call for Brittas windfarm plans to be scaled down

Tipperary County Council is recommending that the size of a planned wind farm near Thurles is reduced.

The company Orsted is planning to install 10 turbines in the Brittas Wind Farm two kilometres north of Thurles.

The planning application has been lodged with An Bord Pleanála but the local authority is allowed to make a submission.

Councillors at the monthly meeting demanded that their concerns be included in an add-on to the Chief Executive’s Report prompting back-room negotiations at the monthly plenary meeting.

Cllr Jim Ryan says they decided to request that the nearest windmills to the town should be scrapped.
