Marie Murphy has called on fellow General Election hopeful Tom Hayes to “man-up” and tell the people of Tipperary if he agrees with the Taoiseach's decision to rule out a deal with Michael Lowry.

Councillor Marie Murphy claims a newspaper report this week about a Fine Gael opinion poll in the Tipperary constituency was news to her in more ways than one.

She has checked with Party headquarters who have confirmed that no constituency opinion poll has been either commissioned or obtained by them in recent times.

The Clogheen based public representative says the report that Michael Lowry is winning huge support from Fine Gael voters is totally at odds with her experience of canvassing over the last two weeks.

While several constituents had been expressing concerns over any possible deal between Fine Gael and Michael Lowry, Councillor Murphy feels the Taoiseach's absolute rejection of such a scenario seems to have reassured people and Michael Lowry's name was not mentioned once during my weekend canvass of Carrick-on-Suir and Clonmel.

Having expressed her own opposition to the idea of Fine Gael entering into an agreement with someone she describes as being the subject of a damning Dáil censure motion just five years ago, Marie Murphy has now turned the spotlight on fellow candidate, Tom Hayes pointing to his silence on the subject.

She feels it might help Fine Gael in other parts of the constituency if Deputy Hayes were to “man up” and tell the people of Tipperary if he agrees with the Taoiseach or not.
