56.7 million votes have been cast in an election beset with problems after voting was delayed on Saturday when at least 11 people were killed in attacks by Boko Haram extremists at polling stations in the north-eastern state of Gombe.

There were also problems with a new biometric system which meant thousands of people were unable to cast their vote.

The election promises to be a closely fought rematch between President Goodluck Jonathan and former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari.
