Tipperary North poll topper Michael Lowry is ready to support a Fianna Fáil – Fine Gael coalition government in the 34th Dáil.
First elected to Leinster House in 1987 he has retained his seat in each subsequent general election.
Speaking to Tipp FM Deputy Lowry said coming into this election it was obvious that Sinn Féin and the Left were never going to have enough seats to form a government.
“There was an inevitability that Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil were going to lead the government. I’ve no doubt that there will be like-minded independents. And if you’re going to support a government as an independent you have to be dependable, you have to be reliable. You can’t be a fair weather person – you can’t just run for the hills the first sign of pressure. There’s ways of doing politics and I think I’ve found the right recipe.”
