A section of the N75 is closed following the incident and local diversions are in place
Gardai say this single vehicle collision on Tipperary's roads happened between Twomileborris and the turn off for the M8 at Thurles at around 2 o’clock this afternoon.
The elderly female driver died after the car hit a fence – while her female passenger also sustained injuries but they are not believed to be life threatening.
The woman's body has been taken to University Hospital Limerick while the scene of the crash has been sealed off for a technical examination
As a result the N75 Dublin Rd in Thurles is closed between Twomileborris and the M8 and Traffic is being diverted via J6 Thurles – Gardaí have closed off access to the off ramp at Junction 5.
They area also appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the crash to contact them on 0504 25100, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
