Almost €80,000 of government funding is being allocated to organisations in several areas including Nenagh, Mullinahone and Clonmel.

The funding will come as a huge relief for the organisations that work tirelessly every year to ensure the welfare of thousands of animals.

Paws Animal Rescue is set to benefit most from the aid, receiving €28,000. Over €15,000 will go to Roscrea SPCA, with South Tipp SPCA expected to receive over €13,000. In addition, Cottage Rescue in Cashel will get just under €8,000 and Mo Chara Animal Rescue, Thurles will benefit from €7,000.

The other groups set to benefit are South Tipperary Dog Rescue, Great Hounds in Need and Tipperary Friends of the Animals. The money will be used for veterinary expenses, food and also to develop facilities.

Welcoming the news, Junior Agriculture Minister Tom Hayes said these organisations do 'important work in our communities' and we should remember that 'animals are not disposable and should not be treated as such'.
