Tipperary Education and Training Board will be the Patron of the school which they aim to have open for the 2025/26 academic year.
Clodagh Kelly is Director of Schools with the ETB.
“We’re working closely with the Department of Education and the National Council for Special Education. They have determined Nenagh as being the preferred location for this new school. They would have all the details of the level of need so we’ll be working closely now with the Department of Education and with the National Council for Special Education to determine the families of the children and young people concerned. We’ll be assisting them in accessing the new places which will be coming available for the school year 25/25.
The new school will be for children aged between 4 to 18 from across the north Tipperary area.
Clodagh Kelly says the finer details will now be worked out.
“We haven’t yet chosen the site for the school – we’re looking at our properties across the town and the area of Nenagh. We’re planning at the moment with the Department to determine the size of the school that will be required so that we can put all the requirements in place for recruitment of staff, developing our admissions policy and other related arrangements. No site has yet been identified but we will be meeting with the Department in the coming weeks – hopefully before Christmas.”
