Tipperary disability rights campaigner Cara Darmody continues to ruffle feathers in Leinster House.

The 14 year old from Ardfinnan met with the Junior Minister for Disabilities, Hildegarde Naughton yesterday to again highlight that the government is breaking the law by not providing an assessment of needs within six months.

Cara – who has two brothers with autism – will stage a 50-hour protest outside Leinster House from May 20th.

She told Tipp Today earlier that Minister Naughton accepted that the government is breaking the law in relation to the assessment of needs.

“I might only be 14 years of age but I strongly believe that it is so wrong that the government expect children like me to obey the law and then they go and break the law every single day of the year. And I told her that and I think that had a big impact and I told her I wanted her to move heaven and earth to stop breaking this law.”
