120 year old all-boys school in Tipp is to transition to a co-ed facility

The Cistercian College Roscrea will welcome both boys and girls as day boarders from September 2026.

Plans are in place to expand full boarding facilities for all students in the coming years.

It says it’s in a move for gender equality.

Colm Moloney is president of the Cistercian College.

“It was lovely to see at the announcement this morning a round of applause. Our boys are coming from co-ed primary schools – its something they are very familiar with and used to. So looks its very natural and it replicates the workplace, it replicates the rightful shift that we have in society to make sure opportunities are open to all.”
