Live register figures in Tipp lowest in a decade

The number of people on the Live Register in Tipperary at the end of 2017 was at its lowest level in a decade.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office show there were just over 9,500 people signing on in the Premier County at the end of December.

Between them Tipperary’s eight social welfare offices had a total of 9,512 people on their books at the end of last year.

This compares with 5,756 in December 2007…it’s been higher in every intervening year.

The Live Reg figures peaked in 2011 when there were 16,850 signing on in December.

The Live Reg stats show there were just over 5,000 people signing on at South Tipp’s 5 social welfare offices in December which is also the lowest since 2007.

In North Tipp there were in excess of 4,400 – the lowest end of year figure since 2008.

However all of the social welfare offices in Tipp showed a monthly increase in the numbers signing on compared to November.

Tipperary Town recorded the highest jump – up over 6% to 1,054 while the lowest increase was seen in Clonmel which at 1,586 was up just half a percent.
