Tipperary County Council is seeking a meeting with Bord na Mona management to discuss their plans to shut down the Littleton briquette factory.

The company yesterday met with union reps in Tullamore, who threatened all-out strike if the decision to close the local plant in April next year isn’t reversed.

Local councillors are also demanding that the semi-state body re-considers last Thursday’s announcement -the issue dominated the start of yesterday’s monthly meeting of the council.

But CEO of the local authority Joe MacGrath says he can’t go into a meeting making demands like that…

Unions are due to meet with Minister for Climate Action and Environment Denis Naughton tomorrow where it’s expected they will again push for the retention of the plant

CEO of Tipperary County Council Joe MacGrath says it’s not his job to question the decision but to ensure that other alternative jobs are brought into the area.
