AXA to close branches and lay off staff

Reports say more than 100 jobs could be cut with the shutting of 18 branches, and the moving of operations north of the border.

AXA has three branches in Tipperary, in Nenagh, Clonmel, and Thurles.

The company is the largest motor insurer in Ireland, employing 1,200 people.

Staff are set to be briefed on the cutbacks at meetings today.
