Easter Rising commemorations

Tomorrow will mark exactly 101 years since the 1916 Easter Rising.

As a result, a number of events are taking place across the country, with the largest being held on Dublin’s O’Connell Street.

Thousands are expected to gather at the GPO in Dublin exactly 1 year since the centenary of the 1916 rising.

The ceremony will take place after 11am – with Taoiseach Enda Kenny and President Michael D Higgins both set to speak, along with other diplomats from across the country.

Defence Force Personnel, including a brass band and representatives of the Army, the Air Corps and the Naval Service will take part in the Ceremony.

It the weather holds, the event will be concluded with a fly past by the Air Corps.

At noon the National Flag will be lowered and the 1916 Proclamation will be read by an Officer from the Defence Forces.

The President will then lay a wreath to commemorate those who died in 1916.
