The family of a North Tipperary man killed in Bolivia five years ago today have renewed their appeal for an independent investigation into his death.
24 year old Michael Dwyer from Ballinderry was shot dead by anti-terrorist police in Bolivia on the 16th of April 2009.
Authorities there claim he was part of a plot to assassinate the country's president Evo Morales, however a number of reports stated that he was unarmed when he was gunned down at the Santa Cruz hotel.
The trial of two of Mr Dwyer's companions detained in Bolivia is reportedly close to collapsing after it emerged that the public prosecutor in charge of the case fled to Brazil after it was exposed that he colluded with senior government figures to frame the country's opposition in the case.
The family of the Tipperary man say that there needs to be an independent inquiry into the incident.
