11 Dunnes Stores workers went on strike for almost 3 years in 1984, in opposition to the company trading South African goods during racial segregation in the country at the time.
It eventually led to the Irish government banning goods from South Africa and is also credited with helping to end the Apartheid regime.

A plaque to commemorate the workers is being unveiled at Dunnes on Henry Street later.
