His Aer Lingus flight from Boston landed at 5.14am.
Mr Drumm was met at Dublin Airport by Gardai and is being brought to Bridewell Garda Station.
He's due to be charged with over 30 criminal offences at Dublin District Court this morning
David Drumm stepped down as CEO of Anglo Irish Bank in December 2008 and moved to Boston with his family a few months later.
Just over a year ago, the DPP informed the US Department of Justice of her intention to charge him with over 30 offences following investigations by the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation and the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement.
They include charges of forgery, conspiracy to defraud and false accounting and are alleged to have taken place in the final years of his time as head of the former bank.
Once he’s formally charged, he’ll be brought before Dublin District Court.
He may apply for bail when that happens, and a full hearing will have to take place if there are any Garda objections to it.
