Dozens of new services take flight at Shannon

It includes nine new routes by Ryanair, to countries including France, Germany, Portugal and Spain, as well as a further new service to Bristol by Aer Lingus Regional.

1.4 million people travelled through the region's international Airport last year, and management are aiming for a 10 per cent increase in 2014.

The new flights were announced by the airlines after the government's abolition of the travel tax, a move which comes into effect today.

Maria Macken of Ryanair says its importance can't be overstated.
