Funding for Child Safeguarding Services in the Killaloe Diocese increased almost four fold in 2012.
End of year accounts also show a significant drop in both income and expenditure by the diocese during the same 12 months.
Today's financial statement released by Bishop Kieran O' Reilly show the diocese – which includes 13 parishes in North Tipp, took in over 993 thousand euro in 2012- that's down over 171 thousand on the previous year.
The diocese's level of spending overall fell too – by 113 thousand euro during the same 12 months.
For the first time -a salaried child safeguarding officer was appointed – on a part time basis in the diocese that year and – funding for the sector rose from 10 thousand euro in 2011 to over 40 thousand, while additional costs and payments of over 234 thousand were required that year to assist survivors of abuse.
The data also shows that the diocese's priests contributed over 76 thousand from their personal resources- there were over 53 thousand in bequests and donations – while parishioners contributed over 317 thousand euro in response to various church appeals.
