It's Ireland's fourth most common cancer with more than 2-thousand cases diagnosed in 2011, while it killed more people than any other cancer here between 2010 and 2012, with around 1,800 deaths annually.
More women than men die from the disease in Ireland, which the Irish Cancer Society attributes to the prevalence of smoking amongst women.
