A 72 year old cyclist has been killed after being hit by a car in North Tipperary.
The incident happened at half past nine this morning at Lehinch about 3 kilometres from Portumna on the N65 to Borrisokane
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will be carried out later today.
A 51 year old woman who was driving the car was not injured.
The road is closed for a forensic examination and motorists are being advised that diversions are in place.
Gardaí in Borrisokane are appealing for anybody who may have seen anything to contact them on 067-27101 or their local Garda station.
This death is the second on Tipperary’s roads this week – a motorcyclist in his 70’s died following a collision with a car near Templemore on Wednesday. It brings to 17 the number of people killed in Tipperary this year.
