Cuts to Senior Alert Scheme unacceptable

The decison by the Department of Environment, Community and Local Governments to cut funding to the Seniors Alert Scheme by up to 53% is  is totally unacceptable.
That's the message from Martin Lonergan, Tipperary based secretary of Munitir na Tire.
He said this scheme has provided older and vulnerable people across Tipperary with a greater sense of security  in their homes over the years.
However, this drastic reduction in funding will result in many new applicants not receiving grant aid towards the provision of this alert  equipment.
He said the new  criteria will mean that an elderly couple both over the age of 65 will be ineligible to apply.
