The majority of non-urgent elective surgeries have been cancelled today as a result of the overcrowding.
Patients are being asked to contact their GP in the first instance prior to attending the ED.

Management says the increase in attendance is due to the large number of very ill medical patients requiring admission – and the difficulty in obtaining the required 75 discharges a day.
