CSO release latest Census figures for Tipperary

The wholesale and retail trade is the largest industrial sector in County Tipperary employing just over 9,000 or 15% of people at work.

That’s according to the Central Statistics Office which has released the latest in a series of publications on the results from Census 2011.

Manufacturing industry accounted for almost 8,500 jobs with just over 6,800 workers in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector providing 11.3% of employment in the county compared to 5.2% for the State overall.

Total unemployment in the county was 14,996 giving an unemployment rate of 19.9% compared with 19% for the State as a whole. Of these 1,131 were first time job seekers.
