The alarm was raised at around 3pm when the pair were spotted on the boat which had lost power close to Terryglass.

The Irish Coast Guard marine rescue co-ordination centre at Valentia Island issued a radio alert to other vessels on the lake requesting anyone in the area to go to the vessel’s assistance.

It's believed the company which operates the cruiser sent a second vessel to the scene to assist and brought the occupants to safety in Terryglass.
