Criticism of speculation on future of unit for the elderly in Clonmel

Resports that St Anthony's Unit in Clonmel is to close, have been described as rumour gone mad.

The HSE was asked to clarify its position yesterday, amid reports that patients at the Clonmel facility, were to be transferred to Cashel.

The unit caters for elderly long stay patients as well as short term respite care.

The HSE has merely said it has no plans to close the facility and Fine Gael South Tipp Deputy Tom Hayes has been critical of claims which have caused alarm.
