There's anger at the decision of the HSE to charge for respite care at units in Cashel and Clonmel.
Councillor Richie Molloy has hit out at the move – a charge of €175 per week is to be imposed on those availing of the service in St Anthony's Unit in Clonmel and St Patrick's in Cashel.
Councillor Molloy says families caring for someone on a 24/7 basis needed the one in six week respite as a lifeline to continuing to care for a loved one at home.
He is calling on the Minister for Health to stop this charge immediately as it will force stressed out family carers to put their mother or father into long term care quicker, costing the state millions of Euro in the long term
