Criticism as former IRA commander is shortlisted for Tipperary Peace Award

He is one of six nominations being considered for the prestigious prize for 2016.

Others in the running include high profile Lebanese-British human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, Amnesty International, and the Syrian White Helmets.

The inclusion of former IRA commander Martin McGuinness has drawn some criticism with calls from the Traditional Unionist Voice party in the North to rethink the decision.

However Secretary of the Tipperary International Peace Awards Martin Quinn says there are used to this – even with the most recent winner former US Secretary of State John Kerry.
