West Tipp man confronts burglars

A West Tipperary man has spoken of how he confronted a number of men who were trying to break into his home last night.

Gardaí were quickly on the scene in Hollyford but the would-be thieves had already fled the scene.

Declan Ryan there criticising the lack of action by the Government and Tipperary TDs in tackling rural crime.

He was speaking after his home was the target of an attempted break-in last night.

Declan – who works as a postman – was in his bedroom shortly before 7.30 last evening when he heard some men trying to gain access to the house in Hollyford.

He called Gardaí but was forced to take action himself before they arrived.

Declan told Fran Curry on Tipp Today how events unfolded.

Gardaí were at the scene within minutes following Declan’s call for assistance.

However he was shocked to see that a Guard had to use his own car to respond.
