Drug dealers effectively have free reign in Tipperary due to the lack of Garda personnel.
That’s the claim of local TD Mattie McGrath who says the current policing model is not working.
On Tipp Today earlier he said the excellent work being carried by Gardaí across the county is being undermined by the structure within the force.
“We had a drugs officer in Cahir – a good man – knew the area. He did a lot of surveillance and a lot of work.
I spoke to him recently – he was being moved to Clonmel and he didn’t want to go to Clonmel under this (policing) model. And he changed his role – he’s back as a civilian Guard. But there’s many like that – he had his finger on the pulse.”
