12 year jail sentences for Tipperary hijacking incident

Two Tipperary men have been jailed following a car hijacking incident in which a man was imprisoned and assaulted.

The case was before Clonmel Circuit Court today.

This prosecution and sentencing arose out of an incident on the 7th of July 2016 in which a vehicle was unlawfully taken in Clonmel and later burnt out in Tipperary Town – A man was falsely imprisoned and assault during the incident.

Today at Clonmel Circuit Court Judge Tom Teehan sentenced two men in connection with the crime – 23 year old Adam Brady of Glenoaks Close, Clonmel and 19 year old Ryan Tate of An Duiche, Scallagheen, Tipperary Town.

The charges against them ranged from arson, assault causing harm, robbery, unlawful seizure of a vehicle and false imprisonment.

Both men were sentenced to 12 years each with the final 3 suspended.

The successful prosecution followed an investigation by Clonmel Gardai with the assistance of Tipp Town Gardai.
