Councillor’s warn of economic impact of taking water from Lough Derg to supply Dublin.

North Tipperary County Council is being called on to oppose plans to extract thousands of gallons of water from Lough Derg.

Under the proposals – the water would be taken from a site near Terryglass- stored at a large reservoir in the Midlands and then distributed to the Greater Dublin area and a number of other counties.

Local authorities in Clare and Limerick have also voiced their concerns about the scheme which they fear will have an adverse effect on the River Shannon.

Sinn Fein Councillor Seamie Morris has put forward a joint motion before the council today calling for a united front against the plan
