There are fears for a number of courthouses across the Premier County as a review of services takes place nationally.
County Councillors have branded it as another attempt to close down rural Ireland and they are vowing to fight it tooth and nail.
Councillor Seamie Morris is one of a number of local representatives who have expressed alarm that the courthouse in Nenagh could be closed – a motion on the matter is before the County Council which is sitting in Nenagh today.
The legal centre at the heart of the North Tipperary Town which recently underwent a multi million Euro face lift provides a variety of services from District to Circuit Court as well as Family Court.
Councillor Morris says its potential loss would be keenly felt as people involved in cases would probably have to travel to Limerick possibly having to use the same public transport.
He says in excess of a dozen solicitors offices based in Nenagh could also be lost to the town.
Court services at Thurles are also under view and local independent Councillor Michéal Lowry says it would impact on people's security if such a service was to close as Guards would have to travel to court possibly for a number of days depending on the case.
The court service has rejected claims that it’s set to close down any courts and state a nationwide review is taking place with submissions welcome.
However North Tipperary FF Councillor John Carroll says they have heard it all before. A few months ago there was a review of the Garda Districts when Councillors were told nothing was going to happen yet the changes have gone ahead. He feels the court sittings could go the same way.
