Council say they’re not responsible for private estates

Tipperary County Council has come under fire for a lack of public lighting in housing estates across the Premier.

Several estates have had their lights turned off by the electricity supplier due to unpaid bills by the developer…however the local authority say it is not their responsibility until the estate is taken in charge.

The taking over of estates by the council is a lengthy process…there are over 500 housing developments in Tipperary…289 of these are not under the remit of the local authority.

Senior planner with Tipperary County Council Brian Beck says they can't do much if they aren't responsible for the estate

The issue was raised at the monthly meeting of the Templemore-Thurles municipal district…Independent Cllr Eddie Moran says the local authority has an obligation to do something.
