Welcoming the allocation, Tipperary Deputy Noel Coonan said it will lead to substantial improvements and savings in a number of areas.
The money from the SEAI will be used to retrofit buildings and local authority houses, public lighting upgrades and the installation of renewable electricity generation at some local authority sites.
Over one million will be spent on retrofitting 410 local authority houses and 216 private houses across the county – these measures include works such as attic and wall insulation.
Upgrades will also be carried out at the Canon Hayes Sports Centre, Scoil Aonghusa, Scoil Cormac and Drom Community School.
€900 thousand will be spent on energy saving works in over 100 privately owned homes and four community buildings in Drombane.
Among the public buildings to benefit from the SEAI funding are libraries in Roscrea, Nenagh, Templemore, Cashel and Carrick along with public lighting improvements in New Inn and Horse & Jockey.
