Work is to begin shortly on replacing old and damaged watermains in Carrick on Suir.
Uisce Éireann says this will help to secure a more reliable and efficient water supply for the town.
The works, which are being carried out under Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme, involves the replacement of more than 1.7km of aging water mains with new, modern pipes.
Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann Dave Murphy outlines where the works will be taking place.
“Crews will be carrying out the works in a phased basis in the town centre. Starting on the Castle Lane side of North Quay working towards the new street junction of the N24 and onto Main Street over the Dillon Bridge.
“From there they will go from New Street near the junction with the N24 towards Main Street, then to Bridge Street – which will be under a road closure – West Gate towards the N24 and back again to Main Street.”
Some slight traffic disruption can be expected in Carrick during the upgrade work.
Dave Murphy says this will be kept to a minimum.
“The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers property boundaries and connecting it to the customers water supply.
“Area of work will be limited to short sections to minimise the impact on customers. Traffic management will be in the form of a Stop/Go system and/or traffic lights. Some road closures will be in place during these periods of work but local and emergency traffic access will always be maintained.”
